Motherhood, Liberation: A memoir
A memoir blending personal narrative, feminist and sociological analysis, and spiritual inquiry to explore the intimate and infuriating realities of mothering in a society not built to support mothers—and the power we have to change it.
Across three continents, the book follows my evolution from steadfastly childless career woman to stay-at-home mother of two. As I navigate the complexities of childbirth, the isolating tedium of unpaid care work, and the many little joys in-between, I wrestle with what it means to nurture in a society that devalues mothers—and how to reclaim power and joy within that contradiction.
Lead Like a Girl: How to Step Up, Speak Up, and Lift Others Up
How do I know when I am being bossy and when I am being a leader? How do I take command, without taking control? How do I both lift up others and myself? This work of YA non-fiction, co-written by Michelle and her pre-teen daughters, uses the daily challenges faced by girls aged 10-13 to explore how they can become great leaders who model the respect, kindness, and power needed to navigate the many challenges facing the next gene
Vasalisa and the Fire of Courage
Vasalisa’s mother has died. Her loving, yet oblivious father has remarried, leaving her at the mercy of a wicked stepmother and two stepsisters. When the fire in the family’s hearth goes out, Vasalisa is sent to request a flame from the fearsome Baba Yaga who lives in the dark forest. The stepmother intends the mission as a death sentence, but Vasalisa, armed with her intuition in the form of a doll sewn by her mother, will prevail.
An expanded, first-person reimagining of the Eastern European folktale “Vasalisa the Brave,” this work of Young Adult Fiction is both coming of age tale and witchy adventure, leading young readers into the heart of the forest and of their own wild knowing.
